Oshipanda

Oshipanda is the small village located in Omusati region (Oshikuku constituency). This small village is about 9km north-west of Oshikuku town. As we all know that most of the northern parts of Namibian people depend on crop growing and livestock keeping for survival, Oshipanda is one of the good place mostly good with fertile land as well as good (green) pastures. Most Namibian citizens prefer to migrate into this village (Oshipanda) in searching for fertile land as well as green pastures for the wellbeing of their livestock.

Furthermore, apart from a fertile land and good pastures, Oshipanda is one of the places that participated in the Namibian War of independence. On March 10 1982, Oshipanda village received a very disgusting news, when it lost its ten (10) village members as a result of South African colonial rule[1]. An event took place when one member (Mr. Mateus Akumbe) of an affected homestead suspected to be a “puppet” (a person, party or state under the control of another person or group)[2]. Namibian/PLAN fighters decided to search for Mr. Akumbe in order to kill or kidnap him simply because he was accused of being having an affair with the enemy (South African troops). One of the PLAN fighters who was involved in this brutal event is Mr. Johnny Kalyamboga who was leading the trip to kill Mr. Akumbe Matheus. They (PLAN fighters) started their trip at around 02h00, 09 March 1982 to kill or kidnap Mr. Akumbe Matheus.[3] Meanwhile when they were on their way to Mr. Akumbe’s homestead, they murdered the couple in Okakukaaumbi village with the accusation that they were also “oopapeta” (puppets), this happened at 22h00 tonight. Unfortunately when the PLAN fighters arrived at Mr Akumbe’s homestead they found Mr. Akumbe not present, so as a result they killed the rest of Mr. Akumbe’s homestead members. PLAN fighters used an AK-47 sub machine guns and bayonets to kill Mr. Akumbe’s family members. Fortunately the PLAN fighters thought that they destroyed the whole family of Mr. but they left one family member alive ( Mr. Yoliindje Nuuyoma), who gave eye witness report to journalists and others.[4]
