Cerebral Ballzy is a hardcore punk/thrash band from Brooklyn , New York. They have been compared to the original hardcore bands such as Bad Brains and also Thrash bands such as Suicidal Tendencies . Their songs tend to be about skateboarding, drinking beer and taking drugs.

History

The band formed in 2009 . Melvin Honore plays Bass, Honor Titus (Honor Tits) sings, Jason Bannon and Mason Orfalea play guitar (Jason and Mason) and Abraham Sanabria Jr drums (Crazy Abe). It is reported that the band met whilst skateboarding and were inspired to make music that sounded like the music on the soundtracks of their Skate videos.

Cerebral Ballzy’ s first official release was the Your Idol EP through Article in 2010 . The 7” came packaged in a sleeve made from Skateboard griptape. This was perceived as being an intentional plan for the record to damage the sleeves of any other records that touched it. It featured the tracks Puke Song, You’re Idle, L Train Blues and Anthem.

The EP was favourably reviewed in the British press including NME and Rocksound. The band travelled to the UK in the summer of 2010 and performed shows with Fucked Up and Trash Talk. They appeared at Sonisphere Festival, Hevy Festival and Reading and Leeds Festival.

The band travelled to LA to record their debut album with Joby j Ford from The Bronx at the Big Game Lodge studio. Joby Ford used unusual recording techniques for the record such as recording the sound of the band skateboarding in the parking lot outside the studio and also encouraging the singer Honor Titus to drink until he vomited, the sound of which was also sampled on the song Puke Song.

Insufficient Fare from the album sessions was released by the Moshi Moshi label in the UK in November 2010. The single featured artwork gifted to the band by Raymond Pettibon. The band returned to Europe to tour with Trash Talk. The NME featured Honor in its annual cool list issue and further features appeared on the band in places such as The Guardian, Mojo and ID Magazine. The band have also toured the US as support to OFF, Face To Face and The Black Lips.

In March 2011 an EP of tracks that the band recorded with Rodaidh McDonald (engineer on xx’ s s/t album and Gil Scott Heron’ s ‘ I’ m New Here’ ) titled Return of The Slice was released in Japan by the Vinyl Junkie label.

Their debut self titled album is set for release by Adult Swim/Williams Street in the US on July 25th , through Vinyl Junkie in Japan on July 20th and Cooking Vinyl in the UK on August 1st.
