'Perry Cormo' is the screen name and internet alias of Dr Cormac O'Brien, a professor of cultural studies and medical humanities in the School of English, Drama and Film at University College Dublin.
Cormac O'Brien is me, I am typing this. I use the screen alias Perry Cormo for several purposes, but primarily in this, the Age of the Internet, so that my university students do not try to follow me on Social Media. Because, even though the internet is supposed to be a democratic space, there are some strange and sometimes toxic politics involved when a student attempts to "friend" a professor on social media and that professor declines the friend request. I do not use the alias Perry Cormo for professional purposes; therefore, should my agent or university or some other party create a page to promote my professional work and research, as well as my community outreach work, it would happen under my real name, Dr Cormac O'Brien.
