The 2007 Peru Meteorite strike is an event which occurred in September 2007, in which an object : believed to be a meteorite struck, an area near the Peru-Bolivia border. The event made headlines around the world after it was claimed that the impact had released toxic gasses that sickened between 200 and 600 hundred people. A subsequent investigation confirmed that the object was indeed a meteorite, but failed to find any evidence that it had spread pathogens or other forms of contamination.
