DD/MM/YYYY are a Canadian experimental indie band from Toronto, Ontario. They are known for their abstract music, which involves the use of unconventional instruments and combinations thereof, steadily changing time signatures and rotating member roles.

The band is formed from ex-members of Toronto bands Plant the Bomb, The Viking Club, and The Newfound Interest in Connecticut.

The nature of DD/MM/YYYY's music is explained as[1]

A mess of spastic, specially challenged art rock with jagged, diamondback guitars, '80s video game synthesizers, and drums that roll with all the punches of the discordant dreamy vocals

and self-described as "always changing and always moving"[2] They have toured steadily in support of all of their releases, having covered the USA and Canada.[3] They are soon to embark on a tour of western North America with crystal castles.[4]

They performed at 2007's Virgin Festival, which was headlined by acts such as Bjork and The Smashing Pumpkins.[5]

History

edit

Former Design Partner and Senior Design Architect (respectively) at Quadrangle Architects, Rom Colthoff and Witt laid the foundations for raw design while processing designs for the acclaimed Cube Lofts condo project in Toronto[1] (formerly known as N-Blox). The company officially launched in November, 2007, celebrating their launch party the following summer with a raw-themed event in a rearranged office workspace.[2] raw has since undertaken a number of developments in the commercial and residential market. One of the company's prominent initiatives is their contribution to the concept of Main Streets. A significant amount of raw's projects involve the unification of commercial retail storefronts and above-ground residential space in this manner.
