Quick TransLation, qtl is a Firefox extension to get the translation of a word by selecting it directly into a webpage. It was launched on September 3, 2007 by Mozilla. Mozilla claim 11,519 weekly downloads and 1,692,676 total downloads.[1]
Evolution edit
The tool was first launched on September 3, 2007. The size of this first version was 2 KB. It is only compatible with Firefox 1.5 and 2.0. The following versions included more languages for translation with new translation engines. Then the add-on get diversified with other tools, for example a YouTube search, a quick e-mail sender, pronunciation, etc. The Version 12.1 included Wikipedia and Wiktionary.[2]

The tool is downloadable for free on Mozilla Corporation official website and on other websites dedicated to web add-ons and sofwares. All the versions are available on Mozilla website, but versions prior to version 11 are not compatible with Firefox 3[2], the very last version of the browser designed by Mozilla.
Operating edit
With quick translation, a pop-up will appear and show the translation of the word.[3] In addition to the translation, the tool give access to explanations on search selected word (definitions from online encyclopedias). Quick TransLation also allow the user to start a search word in the search engines selected in advance. The tool is compatible only with a Firefox browser.
