  Before you start

  • Select an image to use on your template.
    • The image can be a photo of your GLAM building, your logo, or a representative work in your collection.
    • The image should have a horizontal (landscape) orientation.
    • The image should be recognizable at a small size (80px and smaller).
    • Upload the image to Commons if it is not already there.   How To
  • Decide on the name of your project and the name of the categories you will use.


Step 1: Create template

  Make a new template page

  • Go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:WPBannerMeta and follow the prompts! Or...
  • SEARCH for Template:WikiProject GLAMNAME.
  • On the Search Results page, click the red link to create Template:WikiProject GLAMNAME
  • Paste this text into the text edit box

  • Replace "GLAMNAME" with the name of your institution. Be sure the project link name matches your existing project (spelled out or acronym).
  • PREVIEW your template. You will see a giant list of red-linked category names. This is correct!
  • SAVE your new template.

Step 1a: [Optional] Create template shortcut

  Make a new shortcut page

  • SEARCH for Template:WPGLAMABBR.
  • On the Search Results page, click the red link to create Template:WPGLAMABBR
  • Paste this text into the text edit box
#REDIRECT [[Template:WikiProject GLAMNAME]]
  • Replace "GLAMABBR" with the abbreviation you have chosen and "GLAMNAME" with the name of your institution. Be sure the project link name matches your existing project (spelled out or acronym).
  • PREVIEW your template. The link to your project should be blue if you have entered the name correctly.
  • SAVE your new shortcut.

Step 2: Create categories

  Set up quality categories

  • Go to your new WikiProject template and one-by-one, click the CREATE links to setup your project's assessment categories.
  • Enter project name (GLAMNAME) and topic name (GLAMNAME-related)
  • SAVE
  • The template will automatically create content that does not apply to your project. You'll need to make some edits!
  • Delete the Table of Contents template {{Category TOC}}
  • EDIT the template to change your Wikiproject Link
    • In the {{catmore}} template, change WikiProject GLAMNAME to Wikipedia:GLAM/GLAMNAME (OR)
    • Replace {{catmore}} with the optional info header - see below.
      • Be sure to preview your new category page and remove any extraneous line breaks caused by copying-and-pasting the information header.
  •   Set up Parent category for your new catgeory
    • Click on the red category link at the bottom of the page to open the new category.
    • On this page, enter [[Catgepry:Wikipedia/GLAMNAME articles by quality]]
    • SAVE

Repeat for each quality category.


  Set up importance categories

  • Enter project name (GLAMNAME) and topic name (GLAMNAME-related)
  • SAVE
  • The template will automatically create content that does not apply to your project. You'll need to make some edits!
  • Delete the Table of Contents template {{Category TOC}}
  • EDIT the template to change your Wikiproject Link
    • In the {{catmore}} template, change WikiProject GLAMNAME to Wikipedia:GLAM/GLAMNAME (OR)
    • Replace {{catmore}} with the optional info header - see below.
      • Be sure to preview your new category page and remove any extraneous line breaks caused by copying-and-pasting the information header.

Repeat for each importance category.

  Set up Parent category

  • Place the main Category:GLAMNAME-related articles by quality in Category:Wikipedia 1.0 assessments for the bot to detect it.

  • Click Edit to update the page.
  • Replace the text {{catmore|....}} with your new text.
  • Preview and Save your changes.
