John Maucere John Maucere is the first deaf American actor/entertainer who made it to the ABC’s Talent Development Program. Maucere has made been part of many TV serials such NBC’s “Law and Order” and “Brand New Life,” USA Network’s “Pacific Blue,” and ABC’s “Parker Kane,” and “10-8”. He has hosted many TV shows, sitcoms and game shows[1] . Maucere is cruise director and entertainer for Passages Deaf Travel (PDT)[2] .
Maucere is also an activist for self-determination and empowerment of deaf people in the United States. His actively participated in Deaf President Now (DPN)[3] protest in 1988[4] , which changed his life’s focus to empowering deaf people with self-esteem.
Maucere is also the creator of hilarious superhero character for the deaf, “Superdeafy”[5] and Deafywood Production Company, Los Angeles[6].

Early Life and Education

John Maucere was born in Burbanks, California. He graduated from California School for the Deaf, Riverside and attended Gallaudet. During his college days, one of the biggest events in the university’s history took place, which is now known as the Deaf President Now (DPN) movement[7]. Maucere actively participated in the entire protest and played a significant role in how the events eventually shaped out. This movement made an impact on Maucere’s life, which can be seen in his dedication and work for the deaf community.

Career

John Maucere is pursuing a career as an international deaf entertainer and an activist for the deaf. John has appeared in many international sports and entertainment events, TV shows and has been a host for many game shows, talk shows and pageants.

Deaf Education

Maucere is expanding his artistic portfolio by creating and performing original ASL poems at academic institutions as well as through the internet. He is also involved in publication and production of a series of deaf education publications:

  • Fingerspelled Word Recognition Through Rapid Serial Visual Presentation (RSVP)

Honors and Recognition

In 2008, John was recognized by the City of Los Angeles for his exemplary service to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community.
