History edit

The company was founded in 1998 by David Fatal.

At the beginning, the company's main specialty was operating holiday hotels, which are characterized by a lot of interaction between the hotel and its guests and the provision of all the guest's needs within the hotel, mainly in the city of Eilat.

Some of the hotels are marketed with the "all inclusive" method - the room price includes food and drinks, entertainment, sports and challenge activities, and more. Over the years, the company's activity also developed towards the operation of urban hotels aimed at the business crowd, in the cities of Israel and Europe.[4]

In 2001, The company began to manage the "Meridian Hotel" (later renamed to "Leonardo Plaza Haifa") in Haifa.

In 2005, the chain purchased the first hotel - Leonardo Club Dead Sea. A few years later, in 2007, The group purchased several hotels in Europe and signed management contracts with other hotels.

Another leap forward was recorded in 2005: Fatal purchased the Magic Nirvana Club Hotel in the Dead Sea, becoming a hotel owner for the first time.

The chain's turnover in Europe is about 270 million euros. The chain employs approximately 3,000 people in Europe in 67 hotels spread across 11 countries around the world: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Germany,[5] Hungary, Israel, Italy, Netherlands, United Kingdom,[6][7] Spain[8] and Switzerland.[9] Most of the chain hotels in these countries have been operated since 2007 under the brand name Leonardo, which operates as a separate division.[10]

The turnover of the Fatal hotel chain in Israel was in 2008 850 million shekels, At that time it employed about 3,500 workers and managed 18 hotels. These numbers increased significantly after in 2009 Fatal purchased the Azurim Tourism company, which owned the Sheraton Israel and Acor hotels, Thus it added 12 more hotels to his network. This purchase established Fatal's position as the largest hotel chain in Israel.

In 2013, the Fatal chain together with a group of investors signed a huge deal in which it purchased 20 hotels in West Germany from the QMH chain. The scope of the deal was estimated at NIS 1.5 billion and included the purchase of hotels that belonged to the Holiday Inn and Best Western chains.

In 2016, the company purchased 2 hotels in Spain for approximately 31 million euros.

At the end of June 2018, the company acquired 13 hotels in the Netherlands of the international hotel chain, Apollo.[11][12] At July 2022, it purchased 6 Spanish hotels.[13]

Today, the chain has more than 17,000  ???? rooms in more than 100 ??? hotels: 36 ??? hotels in Israel - 15 fully or partially owned, 7 managed and 13 rented; 67 hotels in Europe - 40 fully or partially owned, 25 rented and 2 managed. In addition, the chain employs about 7,500 ??? workers in 36 hotels in Israel.[14]
