Gregory Murphy (born October 18,1951) is an American playwright, novelist and screenwriter. He grew up in Amityville, New York.

His first play The Countess, based on the Victorian scandal involving the English art critic John Ruskin, his wife Effie, and the Pre-Raphaelite painter John Everett Millais was the longest-running drama on or off Broadway in 1999 - 2000 (634 performances). The Countess went on to be produced in London's West End in 2005. Murphy also wrote the screenplay The Countess based on his play.

His first novel Incognito', a mystery set in New York City and Long Island in 1911, was published by Berkley Books in July 2011. He is married to theatre director Ludovica Villar-Hauser and lives in New York City.
