User:Otherthinker/Hunter Region Surf Lifesaving Clubs

Hunter Region Surf Life Saving Clubs are self-governing associations of volunteers which work with local government bodies to safeguard lives at beaches in the Hunter Valley, New South Wales. They provide training and accreditation in rescue, resuscitation and the principles of water safety. They operate clubhouses and provide related facilities and equipment. They organise surf sport competitions within each club, between clubs and participate in Surf Life Saving Australia events.

In 2005 it was reported that "Hunter Surf Life Saving has 13 clubs in an area from Tea Gardens in the north to Catherine Hill Bay in the south and, between them, they have about 5000 volunteer members" and that in "the past 98 years there has been no loss of life of those who do what the lifesavers recommend and swim between the flags."[1]
