Matuyama-Brunhes Boundary is the last Earth's magnetic reversal. There have been many estimates of the age and timing of this reversal. Original astronomical calculations calculate the age accurate to only 1Ma (Berger. 1978).

The boundary is a good example of astronomical calibration of geological data. The reversal is now dated at around 780kyrs. Determining this age involved recognising simultaneous records of cycles and magnetic reversals in sediment cores (Shakleton and Opdyke, 1973). The age model had to be readjusted in order to calibrate the age of this reversal based on the match between cycles and theoretically calibrated insolation curves (Shakleton, Berger and Peltier, 1990).

By matching cyclical geological data to astronomical calculations provided the age of 780kyrs. Ar/Ar dating have confimed this timing.
