Introduction Ballermann 6 (seit Februar 2017: Beach Club Six) ist ein Strandlokal an der Platja de Palma auf der spanischen Baleareninsel Mallorca. Es liegt im Ortsteil Ses Cadenes des Stadtteils S’Arenal der Inselhauptstadt Palma. Name Der Name Ballermann ist eine Verballhornung des Wortes „Balneario“ (spanisch für „Heilbad“) Nº 6. Das Wort Ballermann ist zudem ein seit langem gebräuchlicher, umgangssprachlicher Ausdruck für eine Schusswaffe, und „ballern“ kann sowohl das Schießen mit einer Waffe bedeuten als auch das Trinken größerer Mengen Alkoholika.

Über die Jahre haben sich Ballermann 6 und die Bezeichnung Ballermann als Name für eine Subkultur entwickelt. Die Bezeichnungen Ballermann-Musik, Ballermann-Partys und Ballermann-Künstler stehen nicht mehr ausschließlich für einen Mallorca-Bezug, sondern auch für ein Genre von Musik und Veranstaltungen.

1994 hat sich ein Ehepaar aus Niedersachsen die Wortmarke „Ballermann“ schützen lassen; das Lizenzrecht besteht noch bis 2027. Mit Abmahnungen geht das Ehepaar gegen die Verwendung des Wortes „Ballermann“ ohne Lizenz durch Dritte vor. So wurde Lorenz Büffel im März 2021 eine Abmahnung angedroht, weil er das Wort Ballermann als Hashtag verwendete. Im Februar 2017 wurde der Name des „Ballermann 6“ in „Beach Club Six“ geändert.

The name "Ballermann" is a malapropism of the word Balneario, which is Spanish for "health spa". The German word Ballermann is a commonly used, colloquial term for a firearm. Ballern is German and can either mean shooting with a gun or drinking large amounts of alcohol. Over many years, a subculture developed under the term Ballermann. Today, terms such as Ballermann music, Ballermann parties and Ballermann artists are not exclusively related to Mallorca anymore, but also to a genre of music and events.

In 1994, a married couple from Lower Saxony, Germany got the copyright of the word brand Ballermann. Their right of holding the licence expires in 2027. If people use the word Ballermann without holding a licence, the couple reacts with warnings. Thus, when the Austrian singer and entertainer Lorenzo Büffel used the word Ballermann in a hashtag in March 2021, he was given such a warning. In Feburary 2017, the beach bar Ballermann 6 was renamed into Beach Club Six.

Das Strandlokal, an dem sich insbesondere deutsche Touristen versammeln, besteht aus einem Stahlhäuschen von circa 10 m × 3 m Grundfläche und ist ausgestattet mit Theke, Zapfanlagen, Toiletten und Vorratsraum.

Davor befindet sich eine abgegrenzte Terrasse mit Bestuhlung und Sonnenschirmen. Das Ganze wird von einer halb lichtdurchlässigen Stahlkonstruktion zwischen zwei Lichtmasten überspannt, die tagsüber Schatten und nachts Licht spendet. Es gibt auf einer Strecke von etwa vier Kilometern ungefähr alle 270 Meter insgesamt 15 fast baugleiche Strandlokale (Balneario Nº 1 bis Balneario Nº 15 – die Zählung erfolgt von Südosten nach Nordwesten). Insbesondere der Balneario Nº 6 (Ballermann 6) hat seinen Ruf durch den Massentourismus aus Deutschland erhalten. Deutsche und europäische Medien haben oft über die Szene am Ballermann 6 berichtet. Dort werden vor allem deutsches Bier und spanische Sangría getrunken; letztere wurde früher in Plastikeimern mit extra langen Trinkhalmen serviert. Dies wurde umgangssprachlich als Eimersaufen bekannt. Seit einigen Jahren hat die mallorquinische Regierung den Verkauf alkoholischer Getränke in Eimern verboten. Die Bezeichnung „Ballermann“ ist manchen ein Synonym für eine bestimmte Partymentalität oder für Komasaufen. In der 1997 gedrehten Filmkomödie Ballermann 6 wurde dies thematisiert.

Mythos und Stereotyp „Ballermann 6“

Der Mythos Ballermann, welcher zugleich zum Klischee oder Stereotyp stilisiert wurde, assoziiert ein ganz bestimmtes Szenario, das sich dort in ungefähr dieser Form immer wieder ereignet: Zum typischen Ambiente des Ballermann gehört demnach die Beschallung mit einer Musikform, die sich auf Kompilationen mit Titeln wie Ballermann-Hits u. ä. wiederfindet. Zu einer Mischung aus volkstümlichem Schlager, Eurodance und Kirmestechno werden vorwiegend Texte in deutscher Sprache gesungen, die sich meist um Sex, Alkoholkonsum und die lokalen Begebenheiten – Urlaub, Sonne, Strand und den Ballermann selbst – drehen. Die Titel werden zu den Öffnungszeiten im Strandlokal per Außenlautsprecher dargeboten, sie sind aber auch in anderen Lokalen zu hören.

Myths and stereotypes of Ballermann 6

The myth of Ballermann is seen as both a cliché or stereotype. The typical Ballermann ambience is created through a sound system that plays compilations of Ballermann hits - a mix of popular folk music, Eurodance and ‘Kirmestechno’, sung predominantly in German, which concern topics such as sex, alcohol consumption and local events - holidays, sun, the beach and Ballermann itself. These songs are played through outdoor loudspeakers during the opening hours at the beach bars, but they can also be heard in other restaurants.

I think this translation is well done. The only thing I'm not sure about is when to put words in brackets, whether to choose 'inverted commas' or "normal quotation marks", and when to put words in italics. In some other articles they use italics for words in any other language than English, but that doesn't seem to be a rule, because it's different in other articles. So maybe we can decide on how to do it in our article to keep it consistent :)

Diese Musik ist Ausdruck eines Lebensgefühls, das auch in Deutschland in Form öffentlicher oder privater „Ballermann-Partys“ in Erscheinung tritt. Vergleichbare Partys gibt es auch beim Kölner Karneval, auf dem Münchner Oktoberfest und auf Après-Ski-Partys z. B. im österreichischen Ischgl. Als Stars dieser Szene gelten oder galten u. a. Jürgen Drews, Mickie Krause, Markus Becker (Sänger), Dieter Thomas Kuhn, Michael Wendler und Tim Toupet. Beliebt sind – auch außerhalb der Karnevalssession – die Kölner Karnevalsgruppen Paveier und Höhner.

Mit dem Begriff Ballermann werden insgesamt Formen von exzessiver Party-Kultur sowie das Segment des Sauf- und Party-Tourismus bezeichnet, auch jenseits von Mallorca, so beispielsweise in Bulgarien. Entsprechende Lokale sind dort an Goldstrand und Sonnenstrand zu finden. Die Strände werden bei dem überwiegend jugendlichen Publikum wegen der vergleichsweise günstigen Getränkepreise immer beliebter. Von den örtlichen Gastronomen durchaus gewünscht, gelten die dortigen Partymeilen als Ballermann am Balkan. Auch in Berlin-Friedrichshain ist von zunehmendem Ballermann-Tourismus die Rede.

Reaktionen auf das Image und auf Beeinträchtigungen für die einheimische Bevölkerung

Die Regierung der Balearischen Inseln hat nach der Fußball-WM 2006 eine bereits seit längerem bestehende Begrenzung von Außen-Musikbeschallung auf 64 dB festgesetzt. Die Lokale an der Platja de Palma müssen ab Mitternacht die Außenmusik komplett einstellen, was für viele der Touristen einen erheblichen Verlust an „Ballermannstimmung“ bedeutet. Die Schallbegrenzung betrifft die gesamte Insel Mallorca. Dezibelbegrenzer an den Musikanlagen und Doppeltüren zur Außenschallreduzierung sind inselweit bei Lokalen mit nächtlichen Öffnungszeiten Pflicht. Die Balneario-Lokale selbst haben von ca. 2:00 bis 11:00 Uhr morgens geschlossen.

Bereits im Jahre 1998 ist das deutschsprachige Schild mit der Aufschrift „Ballermann 6“, welches im gleichnamigen Film noch zu sehen war, entfernt worden. Im gleichen Jahr gab es Demonstrationen der Gastronomen gegen die geplante Einführung einer früheren Sperrstunde. Im Jahr 2013 galt erstmals ein Alkoholverbot am Ballermann, um in der Hochsaison ein besseres Bild abzugeben. Zwischen 22 und 1 Uhr nachts war vom Ballermann 6 bis Ballermann 4 eine Alkoholstreife der Polizei unterwegs. Das Alkohol- und „Saufverbot“ galt vom 28. Juni 2013 bis einschließlich 1. September 2013. 2014 beschloss der Stadtrat von Palma mit der „Verordnung für zivilisiertes Zusammenleben“ einen Verbotekatalog, um am „Ballermann“ für mehr Ordnung und Sauberkeit zu sorgen.

COVID-19-Pandemie

Nach dem Beginn der COVID-19-Pandemie wurden europaweit Lokale, Kneipen, Restaurants und andere Orte des Nachtlebens geschlossen. In Spanien waren bis Mitte 2020 etwa 30.000 Menschen in Verbindung mit COVID-19 verstorben. Nach einem weitreichenden Lockdown in Spanien (einschließlich der spanischen Inseln) ist seit Juni 2020 Tourismus wieder erlaubt. Im Juli gab es am Ballermann und in angrenzenden Straßen wieder nächtliche Trinkgelage, bei denen die Teilnehmer gegen Abstands- und Hygienegebote verstießen. Dies fand europaweit Aufmerksamkeit – auch vor dem Hintergrund, dass Après-Ski-Partys in Ischgl Anfang 2020 ein Hotspot gewesen waren, von dem aus heimkehrende Touristen SARS-CoV-2 in ihre Heimatländer schleppten. Bundesaußenminister Heiko Maas (SPD) nannte das Verhalten gefährlich und „rücksichtslos gegenüber allen, die in Sicherheit ihren Urlaub verbringen möchten“. Mallorcas Regionalregierung schloss Mitte Juli alle Lokale in den Party-Zentren (neben der „Bier-“ und „Schinkenstraße“ auch „Punta Ballena“ in der Briten-Hochburg Magaluf für zwei Monate).

Covid-19 pandemic

After the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, pubs, restaurants, and other places for nighttime entertainment were closed throughout Europe. In Spain, 30.000 died in association with COVID-19 by mid-2020. After an extensive lockdown in Spain (including the Spanish islands), tourism has been allowed again since June 2020. In July, there were nighttime drinking bouts again at the Ballermann and in adjacent streets, where the participants violated distance and hygiene rules. This attracted attention throughout Europe – also because of the après-ski parties in Ischgl in early 2020, which had been a hotspot from which returning tourists carried SARS-CoV-2 to their home countries. German foreign minister Heiko Maas (SPD) called the behavior dangerous and “inconsiderate towards everyone who wants to spend their vacation in safety”. The regional government of Mallorca closed all bars and party centers (in addition to the Bier- and Schinkenstraße also Punta Ballena in the British stronghold Magaluf for two months) in mid-July.

Geschichte

Florian Sump, der frühere Schlagzeuger der Popgruppe Echt und unter dem Pseudonym Jim Pansen solistisch tätige Hip-Hop-Sänger, ist in einer Hamburger Kindertagesstätte als Erzieher tätig. Um ein Lied für die Einrichtung aufzunehmen, suchte er 2010 das Studio des Musikproduzenten und Live-DJs von Fettes Brot, Markus Pauli, auf.

Florian Sump, former drummer of a pop band called "Echt" and hip hop singer under the pseudonym of Jim Pansen, is working as a nursery school teacher in Hamburg. When he wanted to record a song for his nursery school in 2010, he went to the studio of Markus Pauli, who works as a producer and live DJ for the German band "Fettes Brot".

Gemeinsam mit dem späteren Tigerenten-Club-Moderator und Theaterproduktionsmanager Lukas Nimscheck spielten sie das Lied Schokolade ein, das bei den Kindern und Eltern der Kindertagesstätte auf positive Resonanz stieß.

In Anlehnung an den Kinderliedautoren Rolf Zuckowski wollten sie sich zuerst Rolf Zuckopfnicks nennen und fragten Zuckowski um Erlaubnis dafür, verwarfen die Idee aber wieder zugunsten von Deine Freunde.

Zuckowski unterstützte Deine Freunde daraufhin aber, indem er das Label noch mal!! gründete. 2012 erschien das erste Album Ausm Häuschen bei Universal Music.

Im Jahre 2014 wurden sie mit dem HANS – Der Hamburger Musikpreis in der Kategorie Herausragende Hamburger Künstlerentwicklung ausgezeichnet.

2020 war die Band mit den Bandmitgliedern Florian Sump und Lukas Nimscheck als Coach in der 8. Staffel von The Voice Kids vertreten.
