Ruby Landry is a 15-year old girl living in the Louisiana bayou with her Grandmere Catherine, her alcoholic Grandpere Jack living in a separate cabin. She is in love with Paul Tate, a boy from a wealthy family. Paul takes Ruby on a date, but the celebration is cut short when they are forced to escort a drunken Grandpere Jack home. Later, Ruby invites Paul to have dinner with them; however, he does not show, claiming his family forbade it. Ruby soon finds out Paul is her half-brother and she is in fact one of a pair of twins separated at birth. Ruby goes to New Orleans to meet her biological family and discovers her twin, Gabrielle, is evil.
