The Amerivision Song Contest 1985 was the thirtieth edition of the annual Amerivision Song Contest, organised by the American Broadcasting Union (ABU) and host broadcaster Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC). The edition was hosted in CNE Coliseum, in Toronto, Canada, as the country earned the right to host the contest by winning the previous edition.
After many editions of intense movement of countries, the 1985 contest was the first where the participating countries barely changed, however, the one change that happened was a major one, as last year winner Colombia withdrew from the contest after massive costs due to the hosting of the event in the previous year and the withdrawn hosting of the 1986 FIFA World Cup.
This edition ended with Brazil crowning its fifth win, with the song "Escrito nas estrelas" by Tetê Espíndola, tying with Canada for the country with most wins in the contest.
Host picking
editTen canadian venues bidded to host the event, the italic bids were shortlisted and the bolded bid was the selected one from the shortlist.
This was the first edition where the limiting of host cities implemented by the ABU in 1982 took effect, which limited each country to have a max of ten bidding venues.
