The Amerivision Song Contest 1978 was the twenty-third edition of the annual Amerivision Song Contest, organised by the American Broadcasting Union (ABU) and host broadcaster UCV Television. The edition was hosted in the Teatro Municipal de Valparaíso, in Valparaíso, Chile, as the country earned the right to host the contest by winning the previous edition.

The edition was notable for being the debut of Bahamas in the contest, as well as the return of Ecuador and Guadeloupe and the withdrawal of Paraguay and Peru. This was the last edition to feature Brazil's original broadcaster, Rede Tupi, as they were forfeiting the right to host the event due to financial complications.

The winning song, "La banqueroute" by La Bottine Souriante, was the first french language song to win the contest.
