The Amerivision Song Contest 1971 was the sixteenth edition of the annual Amerivision Song Contest, organised by the American Broadcasting Union (ABU) and host broadcaster National Broadcasting Company (NBC). The edition was hosted in the Jacksonville Coliseum, in Jacksonville, Florida, United States, as the country earned the right to host the contest by winning the previous edition.
This was notoriously the most expensive edition of the event at the time, as well as the first to be recorded in color, and the last of four editions to be hosted by Dinah Shore. And it also marked the return of the Dominican Republic to the contest, after three years of absence.
Host picking
editTwenty-three american venues showed interest in hosting the event, the bolded bid was the selected one. For this edition, NBC stabilished that the minimum requirement for a venue to host the event is of at least 5,000 seats.
