June Carol Lodge (also known as J.C. Lodge), was born in England to a Jamaican father and an English mother. As a child who apparently was a fan of the Beatles http://jclodge.com/navhome.htm), June was brought to Jamaica where she became immersed in R&B and Reggae. Although she felt her career would lead to art or drama, her eventual relationship with Errol O’Meally changed that ambition to be focused on a music path instead. Errol O'Meally was a songwriter; and together with June, presented some material using her voice to Joe Gibbs' Recording Studio. This demo collaboration resulted in a contract with producer/studio owner Joe Gibbs. Gibbs thought to use June to reggae-cover Charley Pride's country hit, "Someone Loves You, Honey" in 1980. This cover became a smash garnering success in Europe (particularly in the Netherlands where it went to gold and platinum status) as well as topping the Jamaican charts worldwide.
