Agostinho Vicente Lourenço is a french scientist known for his work on polymer chemistry.

Early life and studies

Agostinho Lourenço was born in 1826 in the town of Margao, Salcete municipality, in the former Portuguese India. He is the son of the doctor Nicholas Lucio Lourenço da Conceição and Maria Aurora Alvares. He conducted his initial studies in this Portuguese colony, was graduated from the School of Medical Surgical of Goa. In 1847 he was appointed professor substitute of this school. Later, he choose to perfect his studies in Europe. Since he arrived in Paris in 1848, he improved his medical knowledge by working in parisiens hospitals. However his interest for chemistry leads him to further study this field. In 1853 he was graduated as a chemical engineer from the École Centrale Paris. In 1859, he was admitted in the research school of Adolphe Wurtz, in Paris, and obtained his doctorate from the University of La Sorbonne.
