Pastor W. F. Kumuyi Pastor (Dr.) William Folorunsho Kumuyi is the General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry worldwide with headquarters in Lagos, Nigeria. Born in 1941 to a very strict Christian home, an Anglican family where it was compulsory to get up in the morning, read the Bible, sing hymns, and go to church regularly, Pastor W. F. Kumuyi grew up with a religious mind. He, however, derailed from religion while at the secondary school because their principal was not only an atheist but also taught them atheism. But on April 5, 1964, Pastor Kumuyi became born again and was matured through reading the works of John Wesley, Charles Finney, Spurgeon, etc. His involvement with the works of the Scripture Union further enhanced his rapid Christian growth.

Having obtained a first-class degree in Mathematics at the Nigerian premier university, the University of Ibadan, he went back to Mayflower School, his alma mater, to teach. After five years, he went to the University of Lagos to do a Postgraduate Certificate in Education and became a lecturer there in 1973. While serving as a Mathematics Lecturer at The University of Lagos, W.F. Kumuyi started a Bible study group with 15 university students who had come to him requesting training in the Scriptures. By the early 1980’s that small group had grown to several thousand, at which time Deeper Life Bible Church was formally established.

Pastor Kumuyi is one preacher who takes Christian living and holiness seriously. From his youthful day at the Scripture Union, he has shown that he is a dedicated Christian who deserves the title ‘the man of God.' Pastor Kumuyi does not have a larger-than-life character, does not dominate, nor accrue power to himself. He has a gentle sense of humour with a warm smile and lives a simple lifestyle which is expressed in his dressing and taste. Alan Isaacson in The Extraordinary Growth Of The Deeper Life writes, “W.F. Kumuyi is a gifted man, clear-thinking and humble. Since he was a young man, Kumuyi has devoted his time to reading and studying the Bible. He knows the Scriptures inside out. When he preaches, his message is clear, simple, and profound. Poor street traders who can barely read sit next to university professors, all equally captivated by the way Scripture becomes suddenly relevant to them.”

His marriage to ’Biodun Kumuyi produced two boys – Jeremiah and John – who are in their late twenties.
