Nightfallsinparis

Nightfallsinparis was a screamo/hardcore band from Fremont, California. Formed by Alan Lin and Paul Whitfield in March of 2004, the band's sole recordings are two demos, one made in late December 2005 and another in late January 2006. They disbanded in December 2006.

In March of 2004, Paul asked Alan if he'd like to start a band. Alan agreed and they quickly began a discussion of the line-up. Both Alan and Paul decided to sing for the band. Alan was an exceptional guitarist, while Paul was good in both guitar and bass. They agreed that a bassist was hard to find, so Paul took over the bass position and Alan took the lead guitar. Alan soon realized he wouldn't be able to play the riffs he wanted while singing, so they started to search for another guitarist. Soon they found Alan's friend, Nikhil Gopal. He accepted the offer and a line-up of three was established. They still needed a drummer, so Paul asked his younger brother Josh to fill in the position, since recently Josh had received a drumset for Christmas.

In August 2004, the band finally started to practice together. They had some rough material, played a show at their school in September, and then in November they decided they wanted to record a little demo. They asked around and found that one of their friends had a decent setup in his house, so they went to his house late December and recorded 3 songs and fourth joke track. They released the demo under the name Hollow Promises in January 2005. In March 2005, they decided not to give out the demo anymore, but they did leave it up on their purevolume and myspace sites.

In August 2005, Josh left due to his lack of will to be in the band, though no bad feelings were made from the break. In the same month, Paul asked Alan and Nik if he could join them in guitar. They agreed and the band set out to find a drummer and a bassist. Their quest was finished very quickly, luckily for them. In September they found bassist Chris Difede, and in November they found Jon Ting to be the band's drummer. They started practicing again, but this time it was obviously different. The band had taken a much heavier sound. They utilized Paul's natural ability to scream, while Alan began to compose more complex, integrated riffs.

In January 2006 they bought time a local home-studio and recorded an untitled four-track demo. They took down their old recordings and put up the new ones, a big change for their listeners. Unfortunately the owner of the home-studio they had chosen to pay to record with (Last Drop Studios) was more than instrumental in making the demo sound utterly horrible. The band themselves repeatedly told their listeners to forgive them for the bad quality, horrible mixing and amateur mastering. After hearing the final version the band resolved never to use the studio again. In early March, Chris moved up to Chico, and the band went on the search for a third bassist. They found a few weak stand-ins for their few (unknowingly last) shows. In mid-August the band privately broke up and finally, in late December 2006, they publicly announced their exit via the band's myspace.

All in all, the band only played a handful of shows, mostly in the Bay Area. The Campbell Gaslighter (which is now closed) and the Fremont Teen Center were their usual venues. The main reasons they split were musical differences and a general lack of dedication.
