Joyti De-Laurey was a secretary at Goldman Sachs' London office. There, between 1998 and 2002, she embezzled £1.1 million from Goldman partners Jennifer Moses amd Ron Beller, along with £3.3 million from partner Edward Scott Mead. She was arrested and, in 2004, tried and sentenced to seven years in prison; she was released in 2007. During her trial, she maintained her innocence, claiming that Mr. Mead gave her the money in return for her silence about an extramarital affair he conducted with an attorney involved in one of his investment banking deals. In 2005, her story was the subject of a BBC drama titled "The secretary who stole £4 million."
