Proposal to return TAFI to the Main Page
editWikipedia:Today's articles for improvement is a weekly collaboration that identifies and improves articles over a one week period. Previously featured on the Main Page (original implementation discussion), it was removed due to a combination of technical issues, overly ambitious expectations, and low results. At the time, TAFI was featured in a box below DYK every day of the week, and featured a random rotation of 10 articles that reordered whenever the Main Page was refreshed.
After the removal, the project was reevaluated somewhat. Instead of featuring 10 articles per week, one article is featured per week, selected by a weekly voting system. The project currently has 12-18 regular participants.
In the 1 year since the change to the one article per week format, actual results have improve dramatically, with 32 of the 52 articles being assessed at C class or higher. The project also recently had two articles promoted to GA (International airport and Steak) with two GAC still pending (Java Man and Animatronics).
The proposed return to the Main Page would be a full width banner, running only on Tuesdays, in the same space that TFL and
A return to the Main Page would pose some technical problems. Project automation would need to be reimplemented, as automation tasks that were completed by bot are no longer functioning due to a lack of an available bot maintainer.
The goal to be achieved by returning to the Main Page would be to present an avenue for new editors to join the community. By featuring a weekly collaboration, guided by active and experienced editors, it would present an opportunity to both improve articles and encourage community inroads.
