Myrna Kahaunaniomaunakeakauiokalewa Kahalewai (February 19, 1929 - March 2, 1982), known professionally as Haunani Kahalewai, was a Native Hawaiian contralto singer and inductee of the Hawaiian Music Hall of Fame.

Early Life

Haunani Kahalewai was born February 19, 1929 in Hilo, Hawaii, and graduated from Kaimuki High School in 1947.^[1] At the age of three, was awarded a silver dollar for performing on a local radio show. Kahalewai was discovered by Webley Edwards, radio broadcaster for Hawaii Calls, after he heard her performance on a film soundtrack.^[2] She became a regular feature on the show.^[3]
