Ohumkyire is a Traditional Festival celebrated by the people of Akyem Abuakwa Traditional area in the Eastern Region of Ghana.[1]

Etymology edit

The word Ohumkyire (Ohum - Ohum festival, kyire - last) can mean late or last Ohum in the twi dialect. It is the second Ohum celebrated after Ohumkan festival (Ohum - Ohum festival , kan - First).

Both festivals forms the Ohum Festival .[2][3]

Celebrations edit

The festival is celebrated on a Tuesday/Wednesdays in September or October depending on the month Ohumkan festival was celebrated. Prior to it celebration, a two week ban on noise-making is imposed.[4]

Ohumkyire is celebrated to give thanks to God for the New Yam Harvest and sake His favour in the coming year.[5] Also to celebrate the Akyem Nation.[4]
