IRONSHIRTS

Ironshirts were the Arab equivalents of the German Brownshirts and Italian Blackshirts in the 1930s and 1940s. The Arab societies of Egypt, Syria, Iraq, and Algeria were most affected. The Ironshirts were the springboard for their successors, the Baathist movements. Both the Ironshirts and Baathists aspire to a pan-Arab union, a militaristic brotherhood of Shia and Sunni, under totalitarian rule.
