The Exiled are a Welsh metal group from Swansea, in southern Wales. They are generally classified as a melodic death metal group. To date, they have released one EP; Break the Chains, which contained six songs and ran for about 30 minutes. That EP was released on the 29th of September 2011. A second EP is due for release some time in 2013.[1]

They are one of the few Welsh metal groups.

Formation

edit

The group was formed in 2008, originally with David Jones on the drums, Richard Hughes on the guitars, and Harry Tadayon on the guitars and vocals. In 2010, the group added another vocalist: James Andrews. In 2011, Matthew Angelow joined the group as a bassist, replacing Sam Robinson, the group's original bassist, and the bassist on Break the Chains.

Musical style

edit

The group has been compared to Dark Tranquillity and Official Darkest Hour. According to their official YouTube channel, "Their music is a mix of thrash metal and melodic death metal taking influence from a variety of American and Scandinavian metal scenes."[2]

Reviews

edit

Their first release, Break the Chains, generally received very good reviews.

The Dead Press website, which covers metal, says that "Drummer David Jones is like a machine, the guitars are melodic and the vocalist summed up the sound: in-your-face, vicious and uncompromising." [3] As well as saying that "They are a tight and impressive band, the makings of a metalhead’s dream, and the way they played would have definitely captured more fans." [4]

According to the southwalessounds website, the album "might have been three years in the making, but my God The Exiled prove that some things are most definitely worth waiting for on their debut effort ‘Break The Chains’."[5]

Mike Orvis, on the K33p The Secret website, said that Break the Chains "definitely shows a band that has found their sound: large and in charge. Perhaps holding back on the solos and midi file violins wouldn’t go amiss but all in all a strong effort. It will be interesting to see what these guys come up with next."[6]

Miscellaneous

edit

David Jones, the drummer, is apparently a Swansea FC season ticket holder.[7]
