Engine House No. 8, in South Tacoma, was the oldest functioning station in Tacoma, until it became a residence in 2005.[2]

Engine House No. 13, built in 1909 in the Proctor District, is the oldest functioning station in Tacoma.[3] Due to a shortage in the city's budget in 2003, the station was threatend with closure, but was saved when the employees of the station pledged to forfeit US$500,000 from their retirement funds.[4] [5]
