This is an list of the rivers and lakes in County Kilkenny.[1]

Catchments

There are three catchment areas in County Kilkenny. These include the Nore catchment, the Barrow catchment, and the Suir catchment. This Nore catchment includes the area drained by the River Nore and all streams between its confluence with the River Barrow at Ringwood, and the Barrow railway bridge at Drumdowney, Slieverue, County Kilkenny.[2] The Barrow catchment includes the area drained by the River Barrow upstream of the River Nore confluence and all streams between the Barrow railway bridge at Great Island and Ringwood.[3] The Suir catchment includes the area drained by the River Suir and all streams between Drumdowney and Cheekpoint, County Waterford.[4]

Geology

The geology of the Nore catchment includes old red sandstone in the Slieve Bloom uplands, south of this in the flat lowand areas is limestone of varying purity, shale and coal measures underly the Castlecomer Pleataux and Slieve Argdagh Hills, while the southern part is metamorphic rock.[2] The geology of the Barrow catchment is limestones of varying purity in its flat northern area and western side, granite on the eastern side at the Blackstairs Mountains.[3]
