editLightning (ライトニング, Raitoningu) is the main protagonist of Square Enix's console role-playing game Final Fantasy XIII. She was designed by Tetsuya Nomura after being asked to create a "female version" of Cloud Strife.[1] Lightning is a l'Cie who has been chosen as "the enemy of humanity who will bring about the downfall of the world."[1]
