Robert Henry Griffin edit

Commander Robert Henry Griffin OBE (28 March 1876 – 28 January 1951) was an Officer of the British Merchant Navy and the Royal Naval Reserve. He went to sea in a frigate at the age of thirteen, rose to Mate and Master, and was commissioned into the Royal Naval Reserve.

Most of Griffin’s career was with P & O. Apart from service with the Royal Navy in the First World War, for which he received the XXXX, he was appointed OBE for humanitarian services during an earthquake disaster at Yokohama in 1923.
