Carmi describes herself as a modernist, painting in the contemporary time. She holds a BFA from OCA (Ontario College of Art), Canada and a MA in Clinical Psychology from New College of CA, San Francisco, CA.

"Art is in my blood. It's a way of life"

For Carmi, abstract art is a mix of memory, mystery, colour, form and texture, that captures the viewer, forcing an interpretation not immediately apparent. An Israeli native, she was closer to the centre of the European art movement while living in Jerusalem, influenced both by surrealist painters and the desert landscape surrounding her. https://iicsanfrancisco.esteri.it/iic_sanfrancisco/en/.../abstract-memories-visions.html

Her aunt, Lea Vogel, was a Holocaust survivor and renowned Israeli sculptor who also had a profound influence on her art.

Carmi was encouraged by Roy Ascott who was president of OCA, (he moved to SFAI (San Francisco Art Institute) in the 70's and she followed him to San Francisco to study art and psychology), as well as the late Fred Spratt, gallery owner and painter, San Jose, CA, and the late Charles Campbell, gallery owner, San Francisco, CA. campbellgallerysf.com/exhibitions/07-06-summer/index.htm Fellow artist and professor Irene Pijoan, was a major influence. www.conversations.org/story.php?sid=147
