User:Mlcommon/Central Presbyterian Church (Buffalo, New York)

Central Presbyterian Church (Buffalo, New York) was founded in 1835 after a split with the First Presbyterian Church (Buffalo, New York) over differences in the interpretation of scripture.[1] The church expanded rapidly, becoming the largest Presbyterian congregation east of the Mississippi in 1942. However, as Buffalo's fortunes and population declined, so did the size of the church's congregation. In 2008, Central Presbyterian merged with First Presbyterian and sold the building at Jewett Ave. and Main St. it had inhabited since 1910. The building was purchased by Mount Saint Joseph Academy (Buffalo, New York), which closed in 2010.
