North Toronto Community Band

The North Toronto Community Band was formed in 1998 and consists of approximately 40 members ranging in age from 16 to 80. Brought together by a passion for playing concert band music, members come with diverse musical backgrounds. Most members are amateurs who may have studied music in high school or university and are returning to enjoy playing as an adult after a multi-year break.

Most community bands are concert bands.

The band is constantly recruiting new players, recently it is particularly looking for Euphoniums, trumpets, trombones, tuba, and clarinets. However anyone with a love for concert band music is encourage to contact them.

Since 2007 the band has been conducted by Danny Wilks. Danny has been conducting, teaching, playing, breathing and living music for most of his working life. He has been teaching many types of ensembles in high school for 30 consecutive years. Recent retirement has allowed him to generate a new excitement amongst adult groups. He currently conducts the Maltese Concert Band, the Legion C.B.(Lakeshore) and the Shriners (Keele). He has also dedicated much time over the years to arranging, transposing and composing.

The band rehearses every Monday at Lawrence Park Collegiate Institute and performs a number of concerts each season including performances for local seniors' residences.

Their Spring Gala concert is a fundraiser to help the band cover operating costs so that it may continue to practice and perform from September to the end of June.
