Harada Tangen Rōshi (24 August, 1924 - ) was a Sōtō Zen monk who trained under both Soto and Rinzai teachers and became known for his teaching combining methods from both schools.

Biography

Born in an area known today as Obama, Fukui Prefecture. He studied under Sōtō and Rinzai master Harada Daiun Sogaku, at Bukkoku-ji temple. Actually is the Head of Bukkoku-ji temple, Obama, Japan.

Harada Roshi's teaching uniquely integrated Rinzai methods, namely the use of Kōan. He also departed from the Sōtō conventions of his day by training lay persons with monks rather than separately. Heirs of roshi are: Yamahata, Hogen Daido (1935-) Abbot of Chogenji Temple, Japan. Teacher at the Open Way Association, Australia. South Americans Monks: Jikusan Roshi, Bustamante Roshi.
