A group which chooses to offer its own perspective on a political issue is engaged in politics and if that disagrees with the ruling political position, then in expressing publicly that differing opinion, it is attempting to exert political pressure. That the reduction of immigration is seen as right-wing issue in the UK is a matter of historical fact and the headline in the cited article from The Independent should be a clear enough indication of this.
