Marcus Bishop Daniels (born November 11, 1978), better known as his stage name, Reefer, is an American Rapper. Daniels was born and raised in New York City, New York and currently lives there. Daniels is one of the most successful and popular rappers in the United States.

Early Life

edit

Daniels was born and raised in New York City and lived with his father, Rick Daniels, his mother, Marsha Daniels, and his two younger brothers, Jordan and Eric Daniels. Marcus Daniels had a tough childhood, growing up in the ghetto, experiencing and committing crimes, and many other things. Daniels struggled with his life in the ghetto and finally got his big break when he was noticed by a group of notable rappers at a rappers convention in New York. That group was The NYG.

Career with The NYG

edit

The NYG

edit

The NYG composed of Crowe, Redrum, and Baddass, picked up Daniels at a rappers convention in New York in 1999. They said his rap skills and lyrics were outstanding and decided to make him the "leader" of the group. After recorded many mixtapes and unreleased albums, the group was signed by producer Howie Price in mid 2000 and on April 21, 2001, released their first album, The NYG. The album contains three singles, "The NYC", "Gold", and "Ghetto Life". After the release of their first album, the NYG decided to go solo but promised each other they would appear on one anothers album, remain as a group, and be friends, and make another album together in the future.

Reunited

edit

The group kept their promise, and in 2007, they 'reunited' and produced their second studio album together, Reunited. The album is scheduled to release in June 2008. The group worked hard on the album and that is one of the reasons why it is being released late. The album currently has three single, "Million", "Snake Eyes", and "Gangs of New York".

Civil War: North v. South - The NYG v. Southside

edit

After Reefer met the leader of Southside, Ice, the two rivals agreed for their groups to make a "rap battle" mixtape. The album was released on June 1, 2008.

Solo Career

edit

After the first album, the group decided to go solo, but still agreed to stay together as a group and feature in each other albums and come back with a reunited album sometime in the future. Daniels released three solo albums and one compilation album, and each of those did very well on the charts.

Reefer

edit

Reefer was Daniel's first solo studio album. The album was somewhat of a success for a solo debut album. It was released in the US, Canada, the UK, New Zealand, Australia, France, and Japan in July 2002. The album peaked number 38 in the US and released four singles: "NYC Love", "Jokes On You", and "Paradise".

Smoke

edit

Smoke became Daniels second solo studio album. This album did much better than his first solo album and reached number 6 in the United States. Four singles were released from this album: "Smoke", "No Blood", "My B*tch", and "Gangsta". The album was released in 10 countries in September of 2003.

The Trilogy

edit

After much work, Daniels finally released his much awaited third album, The Trilogy, in October 2005. The album was no doubt, Daniels best album and one of the best rap albums in history. The album was certainly worth the wait as it topped most if not all, charts, including the United States. It also sold over $11 million copies worldwide. The album consists of 21 tracks, 3 bonus tracks, and 8 singles: "W.A.R.", "Invincible", "My Number", "Come With Me", "On The Floor", "Q's and A's", "Money", and "Luvin' You". The singles did incredibly well, four of them making number one in the United States. The Trilogy will go down in history as one of the best rap albums in history.

Reefer Madness: The Compilation

edit

After his work with The Trilogy, Daniels decided his solo career was done and decided to release an album of his best songs. The Compilation was released on April 11, 2006 in every country he had previously released his albums in and sold over $2 million copies worldwide. After this, he decided it was time to make the reunited album with his group, The NYG.
