Early Life

edit

Formby was born in Bradford, Yorkshire. He attended art college at Nene College, Northampton), and at Leeds Polytechnic. His first experience of recording was with old reel-to-reel tape machines and a Woolworths Audition electric guitar, experimenting with different sounds and looping sections of what he had recorded.

Music career

edit

His first studio type experience was at Leeds Polytechnic Fine Art Sound Studio, utilising a simple set-up of two Revox A77 tape recorders, a spring reverb, a cheap microphone and a patch bay.

In the late 70s, Formby formed an experimental post-punk band called *What were they called - Jazz Butcher?* and has continued to record music, usually alone, ever since.

Formby set-up a studio in Leeds in the late 1980's and became full time musician with The Jazz Butcher and then Sonic Boom's Spectrum whilst continuing to record bands and work on records.

Formby has released his own records under the name Triumph 2000, including a solo album on Mind Expansion in the US. *Name of the record?*
