Michael Stewart Michael William John Stewart (born 25th January 1949) is an English broadcaster and journalist. He is best known for his work as a presenter for BBC Television and radio in the 1980s.
Michael first began his career in 1973 as part of the founding team at LBC Radio, where he was a news producer for three years. From there he worked as a producer for the World Service before becoming a reporter for BBC Radio News, where he became attached to the Today programme - a show he occasionally presented.
After five years with BBC Radio News he moved across to BBC Television News where he was a foreign correspondent until 1990. Notable stories he reported on were the assassination of Mrs Ghandi in 1984, the Romanian Revolution in 1989, the sinking of Richard Branson's Atlantic Challenger speedboat in 1985, and the departure of Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher from Downing Street in 1990.
He left the BBC in 1990 to set up his own production company, Campaign Productions.
Personal Life
editMichael met his wife, Janet (nee Walsh), a features and consumer journalist, whilst working at LBC. They married in 1983 and now live in Berkshire with their twin daughters.
