Resources for Media Studies Majors edit
While studying in the Media Studies department the Clemons library is a great resource for the students. Named after the University Librarian Harry Clemons who served from 1927 to 1950, this library is the only one that is available for use 24 hours of the day. Clemons is known for its extensive audiovisual and digital media technologies. The University has a collection of over 20,000 videos, DVD’s, and Laser Discs, 2,000 spoken word recordings on cassettes and CD, and hundreds of CD-ROMS. The Clemons Library also holds viewing rooms fully equipped with DVD, video, audio, International Satellite Television and more for watching movies, documentaries, etc. There are many facilities within the library as well that aide the studies of Media Studies Majors.The Robertson Media Center provides the students with a digital media lab that holds the equipment for editing and digitizing sound, pictures, and video. The Media Lab staff also tends to the faculty’s needs as well when working with electronic course materials. Once a students utilizes the Robertson Media lab they are open to an array of services such as: Project Planning, Tutorials and short courses, Analog Editing, Animation and 3-D imaging, Media Database Building, and Web Site Building. Some of the short courses that are offered include: Intro to SLR Photography, Mandatory Video Training, Advanced Maya, Intro to Maya, Intro to Flash, Intro to Motion, Intro to Illustrator, Intro to InDesign, Still Images, and Intro to Photoshop. These courses and more are given at no charge but are only available for students, faculty, and staff of the University of Virginia.
