Michelle McLean Primary School is one of the largest single project undertaken by the Michelle McLean Children Trust in Namibia.The motivation for building a school was to create a long-term, sustainable project that generations of children could benefit from. The school is situated in Windhoek, the capital of Namibia, situated in the suburbs of Otjomuise.

History

The school was built in 2000 as a state school in a venture with the Ministy of Education, Sports and Culture. The school was enaugurated by the founding father of the nation, His Excellency, Dr Sam Nujoma and Michelle McLean in October 2000[1] . The school started in 2001 with a total of 493 learners. That total has now grown to more than 900 learners from Grade 1-7, and 24 teachers [2].

Michelle McLean Children Trust

The Michelle McLean Children Trust was established in 1992 by Michelle McLean, former Miss Namibia and Miss Universe [3].Michelle McLean Primary School forms part of the projects of the Michelle McLean Children Trust. The motto of the Michelle McLean Children Trust is, ‘If you can imagine it, you can do it. It is the proud mark of the trust's endeavors to fulfil its promise and mission to assist and encourage the youth of Namibia to commit themselves to their future and future of Namibia[4].

Facilities

The first phase of the project consisted of 18 classrooms, a library, a place of assembly, two ablution blocks, an office and administrative complex and a residence for the caretaker. The second phase consisting of a block of three classrooms and an ablution block [5].
