User:Marieprecious/Reflection Page

Sorry I totally forgot about this before Thanksgiving break. Here it is anyway just in case.

The biggest thing I got out of working with Wikipedia is that I will never use it as a source again. People can say whatever they want and many times it is WRONG WRONG WRONG. Good grief. The worst one was when someone said that a person could get pregnant from oral and anal sex. Yes, it was interesting to edit Wikipedia and explore etc, but on top of everything else in this class and my other classes it unfortunately plummeted to the bottom of my priority list.

Reflections on the reflection edit

HA! That's a rib tickler, there. I must say that I've learned that lesson, too. Calling it an encyclopedia lends it undue authority, and, though Wikipedia is good place to gather general information, I would never cite it in a paper. And the low priority status . . . well, read my reflection, and you'll find that I concur times a lot. Thyroidpsychic 17:32, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

I agree with pretty much everything that's been written on this page. "Encyclopedia" definitely is a misnomer, and I think the main page should include some sort of explanation about how Wikipedia gets its information. You have to give the Wiki administrators some credit, though, in that they do have warnings on the site telling people not to cite Wiki in important matters. And since it's a community project involving at least some knowledgable people, a lot of the misinformation gets edited out before it can do too much damage. But that thing about getting pregnant... Oh good Lord! Where have you been this entire semester?! We could have hated Wikipedia together! Ok I don't hate it, but I'm on the same page with you as far as it falling to the very bowels of my priority list. My contributions to wiki only took me as far as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Jamie Cullum, but if I had only done a search for anal sex or oral sex...who knows! Maybe I would have gotten more into wiki than I did...I suppose I was just looking in the wrong places for all of the fun. :) Lvlnglafoftneatsteak 19:45, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
