[1]Turlock Irrigation District (TID) edit

The Turlock Irrigation District is the first irrigation district in California privately owned, it is one of four irrigation districts that provides water, and electricity to homes, farms and businesses. Turlock Irrigation District (TID) was founded on June 6, 1887. It was founded by a small group of farmers who were tired of a lack of irrigation water access for dry regions of the San Joaquin Valley. TID's irrigation region lies between the Tuolumne, Merced and San Joaquin rivers. Their water storage starts at the San Joaquin River and rides along the Don Pedro bar. TID began to produce hydroelectricity from the a hydro dam built along the Don Pedro reservoir. The Don Pedro Reservoir was built in 1923, the project was a joint effort by both Turlock Irrigation District (TID) and Modesto Irrigation District (MID).

Project Nexus edit

Project nexus is a California proof of concept set to pilot and study a new over all design for solar paneled canals. The design will work as a model for future innovations that are designed with environmental courtesy and water conscious goals. The projects features both solar energy harvesting as well as water conservation benefits. Set to begin in Fall of 2022 and projected to be complete by the end of 2023. This projects is a joint effort by the Turlock Irrigation District, University of Merced, And the Department of Water Resources. Project Nexus is the name of the project and it is designed to be a blue print for water and energy integration for the future of California's water.[2]

Projections: {data} edit

  • California holds approximately 4000 miles of water delivery infrastructure The Nexus Project looks to pilot a project that in the future could potentially be the structure for most if not all of California's water infrastructure. Studies suggest that creating a solar panel canopy over California's water delivery infrastructure could result in saving 63 billion gallons of evaporated water. As well as producing 13 gigawatts of solar energy annually. The Nexus Project will deliver data on a smaller scale that will support the studies.
