Here you will find a list of resources in which you can view to determine the way I use Wikipedia.

How I edit edit

"Why write 20 words when you can write 10" is my view on Wikipedia - conciseness. All encyclopaedias, not just Wikipedia, are concise and "to the point" in their approach, and no fancy irrelevant information is included. Myself, I am a visual learner therefore a big ruck of text does not appeal to me, however I do appreciate that Wikipedia is a worldwide project aimed at anybody with any learning style. Additionally, I use UK English as the only form of English language on Wikipedia; if you feel the use of UK English is not fitting on a page, please edit, however I will not contribute personally in any other derivative of the English language. I reflect all these points in my methods of formatting:

Infoboxes edit

If there is an available infobox for a related subject to an article, I will by default add one. I feel infoboxes present information fast and "at a glance", and create a unified design across all articles with similar content.

Images edit

Although not a huge image uploader myself, I feel images are vital to all major article pages. If an image is available elsewhere which could be re-used in another article, I'll use that, and if not I'll upload myself. Most images I upload use PNG or JPEG file formats. Most infoboxes have the availability for an image, so that's where I mostly add them.

Sections edit

Articles or sections I write are appropriately paragraphed and split up generously with various levels of headings. Readers generally become tired after reading a mono-paragraph section, and text just seems to roll off the page.

Citations edit

If I make a big claim in an article, it will always be backed up by means of a reference citation to an appropriate website, either by a direct link or within the article's reference section (if it has one). If citations are not possible, I tend to avoid making big statements however some information is simply not published on the internet.

Namespaces edit

I edit across all Wikipedia namespaces, although I aim to keep the majority of my edits within the main namespace. I use talk pages frequently to discuss problems with pages or users, which give the ability to discuss changes to articles without causing controversy if it were just to be edited

Wikipedia tasks edit

Although I'm not a big tagger or reverter, if I see something that is substandard, I will tag or revert. I will make a revert on one of the three following conditions:

  • That an edit is spam, vandalism or potentially directed at certain social or ethnic groups
  • That an edit has large uncited claims which have never been mentioned anywhere at all
  • Poor grammar or spelling

Most commonly, I use the cleanup, NPOV and citeneeded tags, which are placed within the article to inform readers that there is a problem with the information, however the standard of the article is average to avoid a revert.

Wikipedia versions edit

I currently edit on the English Wikipedia, and a reader on the Welsh Wicipedia. My account name across all Wikipedia versions remains the same. Other non-Wikimedia Foundation Wiki projects I am involved in includes Uncyclopedia, the reverse opposite of Wikipedia.

Wikiprojects edit

From time to time, I will involve myself in various Wikiprojects in which other Wikipedians share information related to a common topic on a Wikiproject article and discussion page.

Userpage edit

My userpage User:Marbles333 is updated when necessary and includes information about myself and how I use Wikipedia. It is not intended to be an equivalent of Bebo or Myspace, just brief information so other users get an idea of my policies on the site. Although my page is partially HTML generated as appose to standard Wiki markup, I stress that I do not place my priorities or emphasis on any page within the User:Marbles333 namespace. In addition to the userpage, my talk page is available for anyone to contact me, and comments can be left by clicking the "+" button next to the "edit this page" tab, or alternatively click the "Leave a message" link at the top of my talk page. Please note that all comments must be signed, and please keep the relevant and don't delete previous discussions. Information on the talkpage may be archived from time to time to reduce the amount of text contained within the page.
