Balázs Orbán (born February 13, 1986, Budapest) is a Hungarian lawyer, political scientist, certified codifier, university lecturer, researcher, politician, deputy minister and parliamentary and strategic state secretary of the Hungarian Prime Minister’s Office.

During his university studies, he worked in the parliamentary committee for constitutional, justice and procedural matters with a scholarship from the Office of the National Assembly of Hungary. He started his career in 2009 as a legal officer in the Ministry of Public Administration and Justice. In 2012 and 2013, he worked as a regulation expert at Századvég Economic Research Ltd. From January 2013, he was responsible for public law and policy research at the Századvég Foundation as a research director. Between September 2015 and May 2018, he led the Migration Research Institute established by the Századvég Foundation and the Mathias Corvinus College. In order to analyse the phenomenon of migration, he travelled along migration lines on the Balkans and visited several countries that migration originated from, such as Iraq, Lybia and Nigeria. Since 2016, he has been a member of the Board of Trustees of the Századvég Political School Foundation. On 22 May 2018, he was appointed parliamentary and strategic state secretary of the Prime Minister’s Office, and deputy of minister Gergely Gulyás. His state secretariat is responsible for analysis and strategic support for the government’s decision-making work. Specifically, his unit prepares domestic and international comparative analyses, background materials and strategies aimed at the realisation of the government’s objectives. He also coordinates the work of government commissioners, and manages the Hungarian Public Administration Scholarship Program. He has published several articles, and has been acting as chief editor of a new subsection of the website mandiner.hu, titled “Precedent”, since 2018.
