The Branning family is a fictional family from the BBC soap opera EastEnders, since 1993. Created by Tony McHale, the family originally consisted of Jim Branning (John Bardon) and his deceased wife Doreen "Reenie" (Joy Graham) and their six children, Carol (Lindsey Coulson), Derek (Terence Beesley, later Jamie Foreman), April (Debbie Arnold), Suzy (Maggie O'Neill), Max (Jake Wood) and Jack (Scott Maslen). Jim's second wife Dot (June Brown), Max's ex-wife Tanya (Jo Joyner) and Jack's recently divorced wife Ronnie (Samantha Womack) complete the main family.
Along with the main adult characters, are the younger cast, which includes Derek's children, Alice (Jasmyn Banks) and Joey (David Witts), Carol's children; Bianca (Patsy Palmer), Robbie (Dean Gaffney), Sonia (Natalie Cassidy) and Billie (Devon Anderson, later Bluey Robinson, and again Anderson). Suzy's children Rebecca (Alice Dawnay) and Kevin (Jamie Dispirito) appear as guest characters. Finaly, Max's children; the recently deceased Bradley (Charlie Clements), Lauren (Madeline Duggan, later Jacqueline Jossa), Abi (Lorna Fitzgerald) and Oscar (Gabriel Miller-Williams, later Charlee and Neo Hall) and Jack's children, Penny (Mia McKenna Bruce) who is paralysed, Amy, Richard and the recently deceased James, who died from a cot death. Along with this is Bianca's children, as well as Dot's niece Dotty (Molly Conlin).

Tanya Lauren Jessop[2] (née Cross; previously Branning) played by Jo Joyner. She made her first appearance on 27 June 2006.[1] She left the show temporarily on 25 December 2009 on maternity leave and returned for one episode on 23 June 2010.[3] She made her full-time return on 27 September 2010.[4]
Tanya's main storylines have focused on her relationships with her husband Max, Sean Slater (Robert Kazinsky) and Jack (Scott Maslen). Other major storylines have been burying her husband Max alive after finidng out he had an affair with Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner), remarrying Greg and then further starting an affair with Max, which leads Greg to leave, along with Max. Her most recent stroyline is when she finds out that she has cervical cancer and that she will need to undergo chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

Lauren Branning played by Jacqueline Jossa. The character first appeared in the show on 3 July 2006 played by Madeline Duggan,[5] though the decision to recast Lauren was made by new executive producer Bryan Kirkwood.[6] Lauren was absent from 23 June to 27 September 2010, and then returned played by Jossa.[7]
Lauren's main storylines have been when she spilts up Tanya and Max after she records Max having an affair with Stacey on a video recroder, although Lauren tries to burn the footage, the affair is revealed on Christmas Day. She was also groomed by Tony King (Chris Coghill), a paedophile, tried to kill her dad in a hit and run incident and was charged of GBH with intent, aswell as her realtionship with Peter Beale (Thomas Law).
After being recast, Lauren storylines have been knowing the real killer of Archie Mitchell (Larry Lamb). Her most recent storylines have been her friendship with Whitney Dean (Shona McGarty), her relationship with Whitney's half brother, Ryan Malloy (Neil McDermott) and finding out her mum has got cancer.
Lauren also hosts her own spin off, Lauren Diaries in which she records herself or others and talks to them about her daily life. These appear on the official BBC EastEnders website.[8]

Abigail "Abi" Branning played by Lorna Fitzgerald. She makes her first appearance on 3 July 2006.[9]
Abi's storylines have been her relationship with Jordan Johnson (Michael-Joel David Stuart) and her crush on Darren Miller (Charlie G. Hawkins). Abi was inovlved in a major storyline where on the way to Tanya and Greg's wedding, Max loses control of the car and him and Abi crash into a lorry, though only suffer minor injuries. Her most recent storyline has been her relationship with Jay Brown (Jamie Borthwick), much to her fathers dislike.
Her involvement with Jay aswell as Lola Pearce (Danielle Harold) has made her break into the Queen Vic, though is later called a "grass" when she tells the police that it was her and Jay, aswell as terrorising Grace Olubunmi (Ellen Thomas).

Lorraine "Rainie" Cross played by Tanya Franks. She has had three separate guest stints in 2007 (two episodes),[10] 2008 (four episodes)[11][12][13][14] and 2010 (seven episodes).[15] In 2011, Kirkwood introduced her she as a regular character and she returned on 12 April 2011.[16]
Rainie's main storylines have been her tackling with drugs and alcohol. In her seven episode stint in 2010 she featured in a highly critisized storyline alongside Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) which showed them taking crack cocaine. On her return in 2011, Rainie has tried to fix her fractured relationship with Tanya, as well as trying to make a friend in Phil. She has also had a one night stand with Jack Branning, aswell as turning to religion, though is frequently bullied by her mother, who dislikes it. She also gets a job in the R&R, but is later sacked after Janine Butcher (Charlie Brooks) only hired her to annoy Phil.

Oscar Branning, played by Gabriel Miller-Williams until 2008, and Charlee and Neo Hall since 2008. He made his first appearance on 14 December 2007.[17] Diederick Santer recast Oscar, and the part was given to Charlee and Neo Hall.[18]
Oscar's storylines have been being delivered by his father because it was too late for Tanya to go to hospital and being named by Oscar by Abi. Oscar then features in small storylines, such as walking down the aisle on Tanya's and Greg's wedding day, and whilst in the care of Cora, suffering a fall whilst playing, but only suffering minor injuries.

Cora Cross, played by Ann Mitchell.[22] Cora initially appeared from 11 to 15 April 2011,[19][23][24] and returned as a regular character on 28 July.[25]
On her first appearance Cora appears on Tanya's doorstep along with Rainie after being invited to Tanya's wedding by Greg, against Tanya's wishes.[22] On her return Cora has been a nuisance to Tanya, after Tanya lets Cora stay aswell as taking a dislike to Vanessa Gold (Zoe Lucker). Other storylines have been being kicked out by Tanya after accusing Tanya of not loving Greg and have been getting an ASBO. Her more recent storyline have been being taken in by Dot Branning (June Brown) who she strikes up a friendship with, along with Dot's half sister, Rose (Polly Perkins) aswell as getting ripped off by Anthony Moon (Matt Lapinskas) after selling some candlesticks to him.

William 'Bill' Cross is Cora's deceased husband and father to Tanya, Rainie and Debs. William died from cancer whilst the three sisters were young, and Tanya spent days nursing William untill his death.[26] Tanya later visits Cora's house and gets bad memories from it because of her dad.[27]
In an episode of Lauren's spinoff Lauren's Diaries, Cora reveals that William was a good artisit, though did not like to show of about it. She also reveals they were married 18 years. Cora decsribed him as 'the whole package'. When he was diagnosed with cancer, they kept Rainie in the dark about his illness.[20]
Debs edit
Debs Cross is Tanya and Rainie's sister which has never appeared onscreen. She is first mentioned when Tanya makes her first appearance, though has not been mentioned since.[1]
