Derek James Lynch born June 29, 1959, in Englewood, New Jersey is an American Artist.

Lynch's Paintings are known for their elements of Botanical imagery, mirages and dreamlike quality, their stark and strange images, and their meticulously crafted color. Often his work explores the botanic life and silicon man made images of U.S.A. (e.g. Mirage series and the Garden series) or sprawling metropolises (SF Garden). Due to his peculiar style and focus on the Botanical life, his work has been call mesmerizing.

Over a lengthy career, Lynch has developed a consistent approach to narrative and visual style that has become instantly recognizable to collectors worldwide.

'Early days'

Lynch grew up an archetypal all-American boy. His father, James Frances Lynch, was an Artist and Art Teacher at Arts High in Newark, NJ and his mother, Beatrice, an Artist. He was raised in New Jersey. He attained a Gold Key Scholastic Award at the age of fifteenth and sold his first painting at the age of five.

With the intention of becoming an artist, Lynch attended classes at http://www.theartstudentsleague.org/ while finishing high school at Hunterdon High in New Jersey. He received a full Scholarship from http://www.sva.eduThe School of Visual Arts where he was advanced to second year status and received best student award after his first year. Silas Rhodes (the President of the school)said after seeing Lynch's Solo show "so you are graduating this year?" he said. While attending college Lynch was apprentice for artist John Seery and Frank Owen.

Derek Lynch is currently working at Hunters Point Shipyard an old Navy Base in San Francisco's Hunters Point.The Navy Shipyard was used for testing Radio active material and removing radio active material from ships after WWII until 1972 when it was decommissioned.
