Jan Jonker Afrikaner is one of the best senior secondary schools in Namibia. It is located in Windhoek, specifically in Katutura opposite the hakahana fuel station. It is named after the great legend Jan Jonker Afrikaner the sixth and last Captain of the Orlam Afrikaners in South West Africa. Jan Jonker Afrikaner high school accommodates more than 800 scholars and receives more than 4000 applicants every year. Among which the brightest students are selected. Despite its poor district, the school is accumulated by the most significant tutors in the country, PHD`s and degree possessors. Besides its good academic reputation, Jan Jonker Afrikaner high school is also known for its other extra-mural activities namely:
• Best choir group in its region
• Best football team
• Best cycling team
• Best debating group
• Lastly, the best netball team
Furthermore, the school is also known for its cleanliness. Jan Jonker Afrikaner high school established an environmental friendly campaign in 2002 and still running that strongly supports the (3) three R`s, namely: recycle, re-use and reduce to be exact. The school`s buildings and student`s uniform colours reflects the green and white colours which represent the conservation of the plant species, and eradication of violence and promoting peace.
