Lágrimas Cálidas (English: Warm Tears) is the debut studio album by Colombian recording artist Fanny Lu, released on January 1, 2005. The record contains ten tracks, most of which were composed by Jose Gaviria and produced with Andres Munera. The album experiments with the sound of vallenato and merengue. Recording for the album took place in 2004 at Crescent Moon Studios in Miami. An international version of the album containing two remixes was released exclusively in United States, Spain and Colombia.

It was certified gold in Colombia, Venezuela and Ecuador and ranked number thirteen Billboard Tropical Albums chart. The album earned Fanny many accolades, including a Latin Grammy nomination, a Billboard Latin Music Awards of five nominations and three Premios Shock. Three singles were released from the record, two of which, "No Te Pido Flores" and "Y Si Te Digo", reached number one on the Billboard Tropical Songs chart in the U.S.

During the end 90's, Fanny Lu was dedicated to her acting career and as Television producer, where she had the opportunity to have a intimate relation with the music, but always postponed her projects.[1] She met the Colombian producer, Jose Gaviria during her step in Television, and began a musical project that couldn't make for lack of time. Eights years later, she reunited with Gaviria and retook the record.[2] Lágrimas Cálidas was released in Colombia on January 1, 2005, under the label Universal Music Entertainment.

Composition

Lágrimas Cálidas was produced by Jose Gaviria and Andres Munera.[3] The genre of the album is defined as Tropipop because mixes tropical genres such as vallenato and merengue with pop music and caribbean influences.[4] The albums opens with "No Te Pido Flores" ("I'm Not Requesting Flowers"), where the predominant instrument is accordion, guitar and caja vallenata. Lirically, the song at the beginning is about the absence of his man, but then in the chorus warns him that can't fall her in love with material things, just with a touch and compliment enough.[5] The second track, "Lágrimas Cálidas" ("Warm Tears"), is a vallenato stylized on a pop ballad expresses her suffering the abandonment of his lover. "Te Arrepentiras" ("You'll Regret"), it's about a woman surrendered completely to a man who didn't apreciate her.

With and accordion solo, begins "Solo Quiero" ("Only Want"), that song is an explanation for her lover, she just wants to be with him forever, and with him the things are more beautiful.[6] Next with the fifth track, "Cariñito" ("Sweetie") needs the affection by the person who loves, with the desire to remedy the void left in his heart.[7] "Sin Razones" ("Without Reasons"), express that don't exist reasons for prove her love,[8] while "Y Si Te Digo" ("If I Say You"), tell his emotion for confess the truth, to the person who doesn't know that she loves him.[9] "Es Por Ti" ("Is For You"), it's a poem that describes the strength of a love that gives it all.[10] The penultimate track "Para Que Si Tu No Estas" ("For That If You Aren't"), asks his boyfriend because she should suffer for him.[11] The album closes with its eleventh track "Me Acordare de Ti" ("I Will Remember You"), express that everything she feels, sees and perceives, reminds her of her beloved.[12]

Before releasing of the album, received mixed reviews about...

The album was certified gold in Colombia, Venezuela and Ecuador.[13][14] In United States, the album debuted at number 18 on the Bilboard Tropical Albums, and three weeks later peaked at number 13.[15] Lágrimas Cálidas received many accolades, at the Colombian Premios Shock, the record won the category of "Radio Album", where also won "Radio Song" with the song "No Te Pido Flores". At the 15th Latin Billboard Music Awards, the album was nominated for Tropical Album of the Year, for a female and a new artist, and won the category of Tropical Airplay Song of the Year, with "Y Si Te Digo".[16] At the 2007 Latin Grammy Awards, "No Te Pido Flores" received a nomination for Best Tropical Song, but lost "La Llave De Mi Corazón" by Juan Luis Guerra.[17]

Singles

"No Te Pido Flores", was the first single spawned from the album, the song was released in 2005. The song was a great success in Latin America, reaching the number one in Colombia, Ecuador, Perú and Venezuela. In United States, was number one on the Billboard Latin Tropical Airplay chart during only a week.[18] Was nominated for two Billboard Latin Music Awards and a Latin Grammy for Best Tropical Song.[19] "No Te Pido Flores", has two music videos, one recorded in Lake Guatavita, Sesquilé, Colombia and the international version recorded in the Plaza Moreno on the city of La Plata, Argentina.

The album's second single, "Te Arrepentirás" was released after the releasing of Lágrimas Cálidas in Latin America.[20] The third and final single, "Y Si Te Digo" was released in May 27, 2007.[21] In Latin America, the song didn't have the same success than the first single, but in the United States, the song was number one in Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart and Billboard Tropical Airplay chart.[22][18] The song won a Billboard Latin Music Award for Best Tropical Airplay for a new artist.[23]
