Vanity - New Nespresso User

(See the Nespresso talk page for discussion about the Nespresso article)

I've been following this article for at least several years, and have occasionally edited it. I don't recall how or why I initially got involved, except that I do like espresso, and at the time (pre-Keurig), this was an unusual way of making coffee. I never had a desire to own a Nespresso machine, due to the high cost of the machines, the coffee, and everything else involved.

Today I was in a charity shop, and they had a brand-new Nespresso Pixie machine for $39.95 (sold in stores and online for $229.95). I couldn't pass up such a bargain, so I bought it. Now I've ordered some far-too-expensive capsules, and soon I will know what all the fuss is about. ;-) Lou Sander (talk) 22:47, 24 June 2014 (UTC)

I bought some capsules on eBay for about $1.00 each, including shipping. I bought twenty of one flavor (their minimum purchase) and twenty of another. Then I bought several of the 16-capsule "taster" assortments. I'm going through them all, and finding that I don't taste much difference between them. The difference IS there, though. A major thing I notice is how easy it is to use the machine. Warmup time is short, and it shuts off by itself a few minutes after you brew your espresso. Lou Sander (talk) 23:22, 27 July 2014 (UTC)

Here's a report after a year of use: The machine continues to be trouble-free, and the Nespresso coffee is really good; I've settled on Arpeggio as my favorite. I've used some refillable capsules, which saves money but doesn't produce as nice a brew. The crema is notably much diminished with them. As long as I can afford it, I'm planning to stick with Arpeggio in Nespresso capsules. Lou Sander (talk) 00:16, 7 September 2015 (UTC)

I've also tried refilling capsules using commercially-available round foil seals. You cut off the old seal, remove and refill the grounds, then paste the new foil seal in place. This works well and gives a better crema than do the plastic refillable capsules. Maybe you can refill a capsule more than once -- I haven't tried yet.

No coffee I've found comes anywhere close to the taste and aroma of Arpeggio, though. I've just joined the Nespresso Club and ordered 50 Arpeggio capsules directly from Nespresso. They cost about $0.84 per capsule vs. $1.00 on eBay, but the minimum order is 50 capsules vs. 20. Lou Sander (talk) 14:30, 2 October 2015 (UTC)
